Recently started making some small tools from square cut masonry nails. (more on that later…hopefully) Problem is, the nails are a lot smaller than most of the steel I forge. So today I spent a couple hours in the smithy making a small set of tongs just for holding masonry nails. Started out as 3/8 inch square steel. They work really well! Grip like an alligator…no more dropping the nails. I forged a flat “foot” on the upper jaw to grip the head of the nail and grooved the bottom of the foot to grip the pointy end.
